COVID Roadmap: Highstreets to reopen on April 12th

As many organisations have begun planning a return to work following the COVID pandemic, you could be going back to your workplace soon.

PM Boris Johnson confirmed on April 5th that stage 2 of the Roadmap will proceed meaning our high streets will be reopening, read the full announcement here

From April 12th, non-essential businesses such as gyms, hairdressers, zoos and retail shops will be opening for business after months of being closed.

Businesses set to reopen:

  • Pubs and restaurants to open outdoors
  • Non-essential shops
  • Gyms and leisure centres
  • Hairdressers and nail salons
  • Self-catering holidays
  • Theme parks and zoos will open

Now we know the roadmap is going ahead, many businesses will be considering how they can become COVID secure. Whilst the threat of the virus is still prominent, creating a safe environment for colleagues and customers is vital in helping to keep COVID transmission rates low.

How to create a COVID Secure workplace?

To support employers in creating COVID secure workplaces, the government has published eight guides on working safely during coronavirus. This guidance is specific to each working environment to help employers protect their workforce when returning to work.

The latest testing scheme announced by the government aims to help businesses have access to rapid COVID testing kits free of charge. Businesses have until April 12th to register for the programme, sign up here.

Alongside the government's advice, the HSE has published a breakdown of procedures and precautions employers can take to keep their staff and business COVID secure.

Will I have to check-in using the NHS COVID app?

The rules surrounding using the NHS Track and Trace app have now changed in line with lockdown restrictions easing. It's been announced that everyone who visits a hospitality venue such as a pub or restaurant must check in with the NHS Covid app from April 12th. Read more here.
